The pilgrims are definitely growing. Originally, Cry was about twice Jabber’s height and the sauropods were about twice Cry’s height. Now the pilgrims are about 3x that size. Actually, they have probably grown even more, because presumably Jabber is growing too. Since Jabber is growing significantly more slowly, he’s probably longer-lived.
The sauropods have gotten chubbier too. Looking back at chapter 4, they were noticeably scrawnier. So Jabber has been doing a good job of looking after them.
Implicit assumption: The sauropods are all brothers and sisters from a single clutch of eggs that hatched not long before Jabber met them. Thus, the expected number that would survive to adulthood would be fewer than 1. (So the population will stay stable if the average adult female lays more than 2 clutches in a lifetime.)
